2025 was both trying and triumphant. Being part of @mainstreetartsfest was a huge accomplishment, but it was only one of so many meaningful experiences this year. As always, @houseofneville was my constant—my charging station. They are incredibly kind and welcoming, and through them I’ve learned so much and met so many amazing people. Connecting and collaborating with other artists like Vanessa Daly @dossantosfineart (who I met through House of Neville) has been so exciting, especially with the opportunities and events we have in store. Reconnecting with @jamal.williams06 and being reminded of the role art played in my childhood—thanks to his dad—felt like serendipity at its best.

I’m also so grateful for my friends, my family, and especially my husband @hrmsummers—who have lovingly encouraged me to shut up and get out of my own way whenever I needed to hear it.

I planned on posting this months ago, but you know… LIFE.

The short version: an elementary school friend, @jamal.williams06 made his very first art purchase—and it was one of my pieces. Jamal’s dad, Mr. Walter Williams, was my elementary art teacher and the person who helped me enter my first ever art exhibit in 4th grade. His parting words still stay with me: “Art is a special gift. Carry it with you as you grow in knowledge—it will serve you well. All things and people have beauty.”

Four years ago, I started what I thought would be a small side hustle—tie-dyed t-shirts. Fast forward to today, I create ice-dyed wearable and hanging art, showing in galleries and boutiques, with moments that still feel unreal. This journey was never part of the plan. Imposter syndrome is strong, doubt creeps in often, and I’m usually ready to quit when things don’t go as planned. But somehow, there are always little signs.

After Main Street Arts Festival, I took a break to decide if I should keep going. Around that time, I donated a piece to the Texas Blossoms gala. That night I got a message: “I’m bidding on your art.” Then, “I won. This is my first art purchase.” It was Jamal.

That moment sent me down memory lane and reminded me that I didn’t start creating art to sell it—I started because I loved it. Reconnecting with Jamal felt like Mr. Williams gently reminding me why I do this. Not for money. Not for validation. But for the love of creating.

And honestly… that reminder came exactly when I needed it.

QUIT! QUIT! QUIT! That is the lingering track that repeats. I want things to just fall into place without much effort and when they don’t I think I am failing. Want and need are two different things, and what I NEED is to remind myself when things don’t fall into place I shouldn’t quit. It means I NEED to work harder.

Being from Fort Worth, I’ve visited Main Street Arts Festival more times than I can count — but this was my first time on the artist side. I’ve always heard how successful and full of opportunity this show is… and now I can confirm it. What an experience!

I sold so many pieces that mean a lot to me (a few were hard to let go of), or as I like to say each piece found its person and new home. The patrons only added to the excellence of the show.

I never knew a year could be such an emotional roller coaster 🎢 🎭! This reel reminds me of what I have done and what I achieved in 2024. I have been ready to quit this little hobby so many times this year. Finding a place that reminds you of your worth is something to be cherished. @houseofneville has been that place for me and I am so grateful for them and all their support!

Every morning I hear the same words. “What’s the best that can happen?” My internal audio has been negative for too long. It will take a minute to adjust.
